ヒロミ：マンネリ化したOLを辞め、自分探しを目的にWHでカナダに来た。28歳。バンクーバーの語学学校でシンジくんに出会った。
クリスティーン：ジミーのガールフレンド。18歳。大学1年生。ジャーナリスト志望の秀才美人。なぜジミーと付き合っているかは謎。
ジミーの言葉を聞いたクリスティーンが、「これだからダメなのよ」って表情で言った。
Some women are stronger than men. I welcome the ‘ladies first’ custom but I wouldn’t work for fewer wages for the world. That traditional sense of values itself is the problem. We have moved passed that old set of values and are now living in a new set of values in the work place and at home.

クリスティーンの迫力が一層増した。
An example is that the numbers of unmarried couples, same sex marriages and single parents are increasing in Canada. People don’t just follow their parents or the old custom and get married. They are looking for more meaningful relationships for themselves and the numbers are growing.
例えばカナダでは、入籍しないカップル、同性同士の結婚、シングルペアレントなどが増えているわ。
両親を見習って結婚したり、単に習慣に従って結婚するのではなく、自分たちにとってより意味のある関係を求める人たちが増えているのよ。
ヒロミの頭の中を、クリスティーンの言葉がぐるぐる回り出した。自分から選んで入籍しないカップル、同性同士の結婚、シングルペアレント・・・。正直、自分ではあまり考えたことはなかった。
